INTRODUCTION :- 

ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. It is an international standard development organization that provides the certificate of quality standard to big companies and small factories for their customer satisfaction, quality, safety, accuracy and efficiency of products and services. It is a group of national standard bodies of 167 countries, include India. It derived from the greek word 'ISOS' means 'Equal'. It was formed in 1947 in Geneva, Switzerland. It is independent or non-governmental organization to increase quality awareness. The main objective of ISO is "Total Quality Improvement". ISO was first published in 1987. 

Main Features of ISO:- 

There are two main features of ISO is, 
  • Internal quality audit at predetermined intervals 
  • Continuous monitoring of quality system. 

HISTORY:- 

The international organization known today as ISO was started in 1926 as the National Federation of the National Standardization Association (ISA). ISO was initiated in October 1946, shortly after World War II, ISA and UNSCC (United Nations Standards Coordinating Committee) representatives from 25 countries meet in London. At that time, all they joined together to discuss ISO (International Organization for Standardization) to make ISO an organization where everything should be standardized, integrated and coordinated. There should be standards and specifications for the same everywhere. After that, ISO was passed for the first time in February 1947. 

ISO 9000:- 

ISO 9000 is a set of standard that addressing quality management system (QMS) requirements. It is a part of QMS itself. ISO 9000 is taken care of by ISO and managed by the accreditation and certification authorities. It is a series of standards developed and published by ISO that define, establish and maintain an effective quality assurance system for manufacturing or service industries. 

BENEFITS OF ISO 9000:- 

  1. This is only a baseline model for quality assurance, it raises of the third party dealing with industry. 
  2. It reduces error and customer complaints.
